Below you will see an article from the BBC News Service which details a development which we could easily dismiss as just another meaningless attempt to achieve a better society through political correctness; just something we should let the secularists carry on with if it makes them happy and doesn't hurt us. I want to challenge the misconception that we can continue to take lightly the continued attacks on the foundations of our society. Read the article and then I'll quickly tell you why.

Australians have been given a third choice when describing their gender on passport applications, under new guidelines aimed at removing discrimination. [Yes you read that right]
Transgender people and those of ambiguous sex [you might notice how the use of language by the BBC assumes that such things exist] will be able to list their gender as indeterminate, which will be shown on passports as an X.
People whose gender was different from that of their birth were previously required to have reassignment surgery before they could change their passport to their preferred sex.[consumer society at it's worst... hmm, I think I'm gonna have that gender today]
Whilst this may simply seem like a comical example of the state of confusion in contemporary Western life, we must ask what the consequences are? In particular what are the consequence's of such actions for Christians?
An Australian senator, Louise Pratt [very appropriate surname, I'm just surprised she doesn't 'prefer' a new one]- whose partner was born female and is now identified as a man - said the reform was a huge step forward."There have been very many cases of people being detained at airports by immigration in foreign countries simply because their passports don't reflect what they look like," she told Australian radio.['simply because' seriously!]
"It's very distressing, highly inconvenient and frankly sometimes dangerous."[ probably the only true truth in this article]
The first and most obvious thing which springs to mind when considering what the Catholic Church teaches about 'transgender' issues, is that we must have sympathy and compassion for these confused individuals. Love after should take the primacy of all aspects of Christian life. Having said that, love equally demands fidelity to the truth, and it is a truth of both natural law, and divine revelation that we are made male and female. The Catholic church's position what made clear in 2000 when a document by the Congregation For The Doctrine Of The Faith clarified that so called gender reassignment surgery does not change the gender of an individual because “the transsexual surgical operation is so superficial and external that it does not change the personality. If the person was a male, he remains male. If she was female, she remains female.” Equally people who are in preoperative stages are not considered to be any less/more/different from the gender they were created with.
With the Church's teaching so clear it is not a question of if but when we will see the iron first of the dictatorship of relativism squeeze further breathing space out of the already beleaguered lungs of the Church. We have seen it already with the homosexual rights crusade, who began by asking for decriminalisation but have now succeeded in criminalising the Catholic Church for teaching and living the Truth. Even in the case of Catholic adoption agencies, where nobody could argue that they were not providing an invaluable service, all of them have been forced to close down in the face of 'equality' lawsuits which have brought only losses for children in the name of 'Gay rights'. Here too we must be worried about the extent that Christians will be forced to affirm the disordered lifestyles and desires of the 'transdgendered' community.
It is scary to think what the concequences will be when the currently fringe voice of people like the Mike Weatherley MP (who wants churches who refuse to conduct 'gay marriages' to be stripped of their licences) become mainstream as they inevitably will. One thing can be said about the current moral mindset (or lack of one) and that's how it want's to excerpt dominance over every aspect of public life. Will the Catholic Church by the same token be criminalised for refusing to ordain 'transgender men'? Will Catholic schools be forced to encourage and support this contrary to nature and contrary to common-sense belief? It wont be long before the attack's against the truth become more radical... watch this space!!!
